Tydeman's Late Orange
A late keeping eating apple.
Small to medium size fruit, and beautiful blossom. Developed at East Malling research Station in the 1930’s. The fruit is dark purplish red with broken stripes and a little russet. A creamy yellow flesh, with a firm bite sweet and juicy. A delicious flavour rich and aromatic when eaten before Christmas, sweetening with storage.
Introduced by H M Tydeman in 1949 and received the Award of Garden Merit 1965. He crossed Laxton’s Superb with Cox’s Orange Pippin.
It is a relatively trouble free, vigorous tree that prefers a drier climate. The fruit is ready to harvest in early October and will store until April.
