Suntan

Sale price£24.00

Developed in 1956 at the major apple development centre, the East Malling Research Station in Kent, Suntan won the R H S Award of Merit in 1980 and the Award of Garden Merit in 1993.

Suntan is a medium and attractive apple, flushed with orange-red, golden yellow, dark red stripes and russet patches. It's ready around October time but stores into February. The flesh is rich and sweet, very aromatic and with some acidity. It's nice fresh from the tree, but even better, stored and eaten in December or even later.

Suntan is a triploid tree, which always means it has great vigour and resilience. It crops well too. Please note, triploids need two pollination partners.

What will my trees be like when they arrive?

Our trees are supplied as bare root trees in the dormant season (usually December - March).

  • 1 year old "maiden" trees will usually arrive as a single, flexible stem (or some varieties will also have some side-shoots). Our 1 year-old trees are at least 90cm tall and can be up to 150cm (3ft - 5ft).
  • Our older trees are 2 or 3 years old, usually have some branching and may have some fruit buds. They are between generally 110cm and 150cm (4ft - 5ft).

Trees that have grown over 150cm will be pruned to a bud at the top to fit into the packaging.
