Roberts Red Crab
A crab apple exceptionally striking for its foliage, blossom and fruit.
Deep red purple fruit, large for a crab apple with dark red flesh. Fresh and sharp, believed to be high in antioxidants. Makes a beautiful claret coloured juice as well as jams and jellies.
Grown as much for its attractive ornamental qualities as well as it being an excellent pollinator. Bronzed new leaves turning to green Ripens in late summer, reasonably vigorous.
First marketed as Doctor Campbells in honour of a Long Ashton researcher. May have been raised originally as a cider apple and still used in cider blends today.
