Ribston Pippin
A delicious eating apple with six times more vitamin C than Golden Delicious.
A round to slightly conical fruit, golden with red flush and darker red streaks some russet. Deep cream flesh, intense, rich and aromatic flavour.
Ready to pick late September, stores until January.
Raised at Ribston Hall, Yorkshire, apparently from one of three pips brought over from Rouen, France, by Sir Henry Goodricke around 1707. Listed in 1769 by William Perfect of Pontefract, becoming universally renowned by the early 1800s. Popular favourite in Victorian times in England and also becoming popular in Sweden and America.
Rich in sugar and high in acidity so a good cider apple.
