King's Acre Pippin
Excellent late keeping eating apple.
Fruit is large and green with brownish red flush and some russet. A wonderful rich flavour, crisp and juicy with a creamy flesh. One of those apples that should not be underestimated, what it lacks in the beauty department it more than makes up for in flavour and storing well into the new year.
First came to light in 1897 winning the RHS Award of Merit, then introduced by King’s Acre Nursery, Hereford 1899. Believed to be a cross between Sturmer Pippin and Ribston Pippin. A vigorous, relatively trouble-free, spreading tree, (it does like a bit of space in which to spread). Ready to harvest in early October.
Triploid.
