Devonshire Quarrenden

Sale price£24.00

A very old eating apple.

Attractive fruit, stunning deep red. Juicy, sweet, crisp strawberry flavour. Ripens in August.

An apple so old it was mentioned by Worlidge in Vinetum Brittanicum  of 1678. The name possibly derives from Carentan, an apple growing region of Normandy. Tolerant of wind and rain and is very popular in Devon where it thrives.

Permission to use photograph by Philip James (Dinefwr Heritage Orchard) is gratefully acknowledged.

What will my trees be like when they arrive?

Our trees are supplied as bare root trees in the dormant season (usually December - March).

  • 1 year old "maiden" trees will usually arrive as a single, flexible stem (or some varieties will also have some side-shoots). Our 1 year-old trees are at least 90cm tall and can be up to 150cm (3ft - 5ft).
  • Our older trees are 2 or 3 years old, usually have some branching and may have some fruit buds. They are between generally 110cm and 150cm (4ft - 5ft).

Trees that have grown over 150cm will be pruned to a bud at the top to fit into the packaging.

Healthy looking trees

Great service, trees were very well protected in transport. The trees look healthy but I cannot comment on the quality yet as I have only just planted them.

Great service

They were extremely helpful and kind, and I got my tree promptly. It looks a good specimen and am looking forward to having apples in a couple of years or so
