Burgundy
A Welsh perry pear from Monmouthshire.
Round conical fruit, a likely sport of Blakeney Red, although larger with a different flavour. Sports are naturally-occurring mutations that can give rise to a new variety.
Green with red flush in the sun, some russet. Flowers mid April.
Named by Dave Matthews and found in many orchards around Monmouthshire.
Medium tannin and acid.
Permission to use photograph by the Welsh Perry and Cider Society is gratefully acknowledged.
