How to prune an apple or pear tree - January 18th 2025

We'll cover the theory of pruning, understand the growing cycle and needs of fruit trees and, following some demonstrations, you'll have a go at pruning trees yourself.  

How to prune an apple or pear tree - January 25th 2025

Learn all about how to winter prune apple or pear trees. In this one-day workshop, you’ll learn why we prune, how we prune and simple techniques for confidently pruning your own trees.

We'll look at dealing with disease and damage whilst encouraging the tree to fruit well. Alongside the theory there will be lots of opportunity to practise on some trees.

Summer pruning apples and pears - 12th July 2025

Summer fruit tree pruning is key to managing trained fruit trees and is also a valuable technique for keeping standard trees in good shape, productive and healthy. Learn how to train apples and pears into shapes like espaliers, cordons or step-overs and more and the critical role summer pruning has in that. 
Come along to learn why we summer prune, how to go about it on trained and standard trees and learn how to produce your own trained fruit trees. The course will cover all the theory and there will plenty of time to practise on trees at Orchard Mawr. 

Orchard course: Regenerative orchard design and care, two-day course - May 24th and 25th 2025

We'll be looking in-depth at how fruit trees behave, what they need and how they behave in their environment. Armed with that background, we'll look at good orchard design and what the orchard-care calendar looks like.

We'll be based at Orchard Mawr in Haverfordwest and we'll be assessing and designing a plan for regenerative care of that orchard as part of the course.
